Critical Care Medicine (ICU)

Intensive, round-the-clock monitoring and care

Chester Regional Medical Center’s highly trained critical care doctors, nurses and other health care professionals provide 24-hour monitoring and acute care for critically ill patients in our Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Patients have access to specialists in a full range of disciplines who are available to provide expert care at a moment’s notice. Our ICU team utilizes advanced equipment and technology to provide safe, high-quality care.

The Intensive Care Unit is a (6)-bed unit with continuous hemodynamic monitoring capabilities and nursing staff competent in critical care delivery. Nurse to patient ratio can range from 1:2 to 1:3, depending on the patient acuity and demonstrated by nursing competence. Care is provided to patients from pediatric (greater than one year old and greater than 10kg weight) to geriatric. These patients may have single or multi-system failure requiring intensive care.

Our staffing plan is designed to meet AACN guidelines. We utilize full, part-time, and prn RN’s with relevant training and experience. LPN’s, Ceritified nursing aides, secretaries and Monitor Technicians may be utilized as needed. Patient assignment is governed by competency, staffing matrix, patient acurity, and policies and procedures.

We understand that having a family member or loved one in the ICU can be difficult, so our critical care team members are dedicated to keeping you well informed and answering your questions.
